How did you go to work today?

A special tribute to the amazing composer Raul “Tilin” Orozco and his magical guitar.  We crossed this majestic sloop off the southwestern coast of Haiti.  It acts as a ferry each day shuttling passengers between the primitive island of Ile la Vache and Les Cayes, a bustling city on mainland Haiti.  Imagine.  A ferry completely dependent on nature, rather than gasoline and machinery.  It gives new meaning to variable commute times.  Its unaffected beauty seems to fit well with Tilin’s music, no?

Moonhole first part-.mp4

This is Part I of the Moonhole story, a magical place we found in Bequia, a small island in the Grenadines.  Moonhole is a large labyrinth of homes set on a cliffside conceived and built by 1960′s Madison Avenue advertising exec Tom Johnston.  No doors, electricity or running water exist on Moonhole – only great expanse of spaces that open directly toward the ocean below.   The home toured in this segment was abandoned about Johnston passed away, but several of the other homes here are lived in today. The beautiful music you hear belongs to Giacomo Fiore, a Sea Nation friend and one of the many talented composers who contribute to the incredible soundtrack.

Il capitano

Madonna!  To begin with one of Diego’s signature phrases.  Diego, our Italian Captain, graciously took us onboard his beloved boat and gave us our first orientation in sailing. We visited some of his favorite places and began to feel at home with life on the sea. He is a brave man to take two families with small children along for the ride and we thank him dearly for sharing his unique perspective on life, love and the art of making a mean pasta from leftovers you can find in your fridge and cabinet!
